Dr. Michael Fuchs was born on February 6th, 1949 in Koblenz, he is catholic and father of two daughters. After his „Abitur“ (secondary school leaving examination) in 1967 he studied pharmacy at the universities of Erlangen and Bonn, where he graduated successfully as pharmacist in 1973. 1976 he received a doctor’s degree in biochemistry as Dr. rer. nat. 1979 he left Bundeswehr as a staff pharmacist in the reserves.
In 1980 he founded the company Impex Electronic. In the context of his entrepreneurial activities he quickly became engaged in economic- and trade policy and soon he held a range of high-level positions in different associations:
Since 1986 he was President of the Employer’s Association of Wholesalers in Rheinland-Pfalz and of the Association for Wholesale and International Business in Rheinland-Pfalz. In 1987 he was elected as federal chairman of the Association of Young Entrepreneurs (BJU), 1992 he became a member of the executive committee of the Federal Association of German Employer’s (BDA). From 1992 until 2001 Fuchs shaped as President the Federation of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (BGA), where he still is honorary President. At the same time he was Vice-President of the Federation of European Wholesale and International Trade Associations (FEWITA) in 1992. Michael Fuchs is a Committee Member German Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong. Since 1995 he is a board member of the German Economic Asia-Pacific Committee and since 1997 he is Chairman of the German Economic Committee of Taiwan. From 1999 until 2001 he was founding president of the federation of German Trade Associations (BDH). In addition Fuchs is chairman of the German Group of the Trilateral Commission since 2002. In 2010 he became vice-chairman of the European Group of the Trilateral Commission.
Next to his active participation in different associations, Fuchs became politically active in his home town and was member of the city council of Koblenz from 1990 until 2006. In Koblenz Fuchs is actively involved as Chairman of the Rhein-Museum Koblenz.
In the general election 2002 he won his home constituency and became a member of the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag). In 2005 he was re-elected and won his home constituency with 45.4 %. In the general election 2009 he won his home constituency with 44.1 %.
Dr. Michael Fuchs is an alternate member of the committee on economics and technology, of the defence committee, the tourism committee and the petitions committee. Between February 2006 an November 2011 he was Chairman of the German SME Circle (PKM) of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. This body is the biggest sociological group in the parliament. In October 2006 Fuchs was also elected as a member of the CDU federal executive board. In November 2009 he was also elected as Vice-Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group. In November 2011 he was elected as honorary Chairmam of PKM.
